Kitchen Renovation

Back in February, Eric & I were given old kitchen cabinets from a house that was being renovated in St C. They were ugly, but we thought a little paint would hopefully help. Anything was better than our current kitchen- no cabinet or counter-top space, as you can see in the picture below.

I am not really a fan of painted cabinets and was upset trying to pick a color that would look alright to me and match the kitchen. Eric finally came up with the idea of painting them black. I have black in the dining room, so black in the kitchen would work really well.

Our next decision was picking out countertop. We didn't want to go too dark, but didn't want to choose something too light either. We found a pattern at Lowes that was a little dark and light, so we thought we'd go with it. Only, instead of buying from Lowes, we went local. We bought the counter-top from Bill's Top Shop here in St C. It was established in 1969 by William Green, now ran by family member Dave Lewis. We got what we wanted cheaper than what we could have gotten at Lowes, plus Dave cut the countertop to our specifications- we wouldn't have gotten that from Lowes.

In addition to adding the cabinets and countertop, Eric added another electric receptacle near the stove. Currently we had only one outlet. We also added electric above the stove so that we could use the fan and light that go above it. Eric's Uncle Larry helped us with the wiring.

This was how it has turned out so far. We aren't quite finished, but really close. If you notice the whole in the bottom corner, that is going to be storage. I just need to learn to sew so that I can make a curtain to hang across.
